Ruffed Grouse eggs
The ruffed grouse stayed put on her nest as long as she could stand it. Indy and I were trekking across a pasture to take a picture of red maple in bloom. She probably wouldn't have moved if it had only been Indy since she was so perfectly camouflaged. However, seeing me was too much for her to stay put. Indy immediately went to where she had been before flying off and I saw there was a shallow nest. I called Indy off, got a few pictures, and we left. She'll come right back to her nest. I'm not worried about the eggs cooling off. The temp was close to 60 degrees and eggs can take a certain amount of cooling (however too much heat will kill them). Glad they hadn't hatched yet. Indy was only mildly interested in eggs but baby chicks would have been another matter entirely.
