A picture from my friend, Kathy.
A new milker started today - Juanita. She is older than the 17-25 year old's with whom I've been working and while she knows her way around a cow, she isn't familiar w/ the parlor style of milking. Carol, the dairy owner, stuck around for awhile to get her started and show her how they wanted cows prepped and the milking units put on. The parlor was a busy place with Juanita learning the procedures, the milk tester getting samples, and a group of middle-schoolers coming through to see how a dairy works. Afterwards, as I was cleaning up in the milk room, Carol asked what I thought of Juanita. "She's doing very well." I replied. I was a little uncertain how to put into words what I really wanted to say so I just added, "She really wants to do a good job." Carol smiled and whispered, "It's so nice to work w/ adults, isn't it." Yep, Carol understood.
