Yellow Pond Lily

This picture may appear to have a lot of specks on it - those are mosquitoes (mostly). I've taken pictures of these lilies every time I go past this pond and this is the least speckled picture I could get. When we had day after day of rain, it's often enough to keep the insect pupae from hatching in the ponds. They need few days of stagnant water. Last week we had those few days in a row w/o rain and that did it - the insects are ramping up to full force now.

Plenty of mosquitoes and biting flies here in Rochester too. Makes working with one hand outside a real challenge, the other hand is busy swatting. Fireflies are neat at night!
