Wood Violets

I arrived at the library for duty tonight. The only people there were two young girls and the librarian. The librarian had no sooner left when the girls came to me w/ a form allowing the younger to use the library computer. Any child under 18 must have a card on-file, signed by a parent, stating that they can have internet access on the library's computer. I had explained this to these same girls two weeks ago when the younger one asked to get on the computer. I had given her the form but explained that one of her parents must bring it back to the library. (The librarian is concerned that signatures can be forged.) The girls knew that the librarian wouldn't allow them to bring back the signed forms themselves ...but... maybe the volunteer might let them get away w/ it? The volunteer (me) explained the rules again. The girls first feigned ignorance of the rules and then tried a myriad of excuses and reasonings on me until they finally called mom. She dropped by to let me know she had signed the form. They could have done this in the first place and anytime within the last two weeks. Maybe it's just more fun to jerk the volunteer around?

While jerking the volunteer around could be rousing fun, it's more like an issue of patience on the girls part. Their mom probably signed the form and said she'd drop it by soon. But moms get busy and she might have forgotten or gotten busy/distracted. When they called from the library, their mom may have suddenly remember what she was supposed to do and figured there was no time like the present to get it done. Of course, I do not speak from personal experience at all - LOL! And we all know that moms are much scarier than strangers so it would have been easier to see if they could get it done without bothering mom.
