Sunlit clouds

Got to the dairy at 4:45 a.m. as usual. Having no water was unusual - a little drip from the faucets was all we had. I could have called the owners but I just didn't have the heart and, besides, Mike would be coming soon. When Mike arrived, he called the owners. Could be that the well had run dry (unlikely) or that the pump had broken (maybe). What the problem did turn out to be was that someone left the well door open last night. Even though we are now into Spring and Easter is past, it was cold enough to freeze the pipes. The owners got the heat going in the well house and within a 1/2 hour the water was on again. Since the cleaning cycle on the milking machines didn't finish last night I can pretty well pinpoint the time the water stopped - 1 a.m.  Fortunately that means the cows probably had sufficient water until the problem was discovered this morning. Sooner or later, it's just got to warm up!
