Lots of people at the town board meeting tonight. The Chairman's challenger in the election had asked to be put on the agenda. It soon became apparent that all of the people coming weren't there to see the new town hall. Sides were being drawn up: incumbent vs. challenger. After the usual town business, the challenger got his chance to speak. He questioned that the town board could appoint themselves general contractor. The board answered that they had contacted the town lawyer, other contractors, and other towns and found that they could. He accused the board of profiting from their work. Since the board only gets $10.50/ hour and none of their time has been excessive, it's a hard point to make stick. He then asked who would warrant their work? They said their "work" has been things like staking out where the building and driveway should be, telling the electrician where to put outlets, and hanging a cork board. The challenger then ended w/ a personal slam at the chairman. Fortunately, the chairman kept his cool. I didn't. While the meeting is going on, I'm typing in the minutes on my laptop and I added some rather nasty sentences about what I thought of someone who make such a low blow in a public meeting. Not to worry. I'll edit them out later.
