Scaredy Cat corner block

Lisa, the intern, will be married in about a week.  Eric, the dairy owner, came into the parlor while we were milking and asked, somewhat rhetorically, why wedding vows state "til death do us part."  He felt it was odd to bring up death at such a happy occasion.  Why not state the same idea more positively - something like "as long as the sun rises" or "through all of our tomorrows"?   He thought guys would prefer this language "'cause it doesn't sound so final and no guy really listens to flowery language anyway."  Lisa said the pastor had given them vows to choose from and she was pretty sure there was no "death" mentioned in any of them.  "Nor," she added,"was there the word 'obey'."  We were about to get into an animated discussion if marriage was a 'covenant' or a 'contract' when Eric had to leave.  Probably just as well to give Lisa a break from thinking about her impending doom -oops- upcoming nuptials.  (Freudian slip there.)
