Phantom Crane Fly (Bittacomorpha clavipes)

Brent and I took Indy on a long walk through the swamps. At one point, Brent said he saw wisps of something blowing in the wind. It turned out to be these tiny flies. (Hard to get them in focus. Something I'll have to work on.) I knew that they must be a type of crane fly - a species known for their ungainly flight pattern. This variety is called "Phantom" since their black & white coloration makes them seem to appear and disappear as they fly - exactly as Brent saw them do. So, I learned something new today - now I can go to sleep happy.
