I was poised, milker unit in hand, about to put it on the last cow in the line. I heard the stanchions start to go up but thought it was the line behind me. Nope. Someone had hit the wrong button and the 8 cows I had just attached units to started walking off. Milkers popping off udders - sucking air, cows mooing: it was bedlam. I just stood w/ my mouth agape, milking machine still held in one hand. After a moment of shock, the herdsman and I shut everything off and herded the cows back into the holding pen. Don't think I'll sign up for EMT training anytime soon. Can't imagine how I'd act in a real emergency.
