Town board meeting tonight. At the Citizen's Appearance portion, we again had a request to open up a gravel road that winds through county forest for ATV travel. The board explained that they would not do that. Off either side of the road are hiking and ski paths that have been designated as "quiet trails" (i.e. no mechanized travel). Since it's the road access and not the trails that the ATVers asked for, they didn't see the relevance. The various groups that maintain those trails however have a fear that rogue ATVers will venture off the road onto their paths and rip them up - making them unusable until fixed or regroomed. This could have turned into a long debate except that the county recently informed us that they are trying to find the ATV riders who rutted up shorelines in the area. The board was adamant - bad timing to be asking for more access just now.
