Another sign that spring is here are weight limits. As the frost goes out of the ground, the soil becomes soft and spongy. This affects the county and townships when heavy trucks (milk haulers, garbage haulers, lumber trucks, etc.) cause temporarily compromised roads to crack and heave. This week the county limited the weight of trucks allowed on their roads and our township followed suit. You might think that it is a lot of work for the town board to post all of our roads w/ weight limit signs. Actually there are just 3 signs to install - only where town roads connect with state roads(which are built to a higher standard). No signage is necessary where town roads connect to county roads since the county has already posted weight limits on their roads.
