Kite

I had a good idea this morning.  I think it's healthy for a person to have at least one good idea every day.  I did an experiment which turned out rather well.  Indy and I worked on her new winter trick.  It's taking longer than I expected but w/ some tricks it just takes perseverance until the behavior becomes rote.  So this afternoon I decided to try something new.  I decided to fly a kite.

It's very windy here at the top of the hill.  The open hay field nearby is an excellent place w/ no overhead electric lines or other obstacles.  Temp is in the 30's so the snow from Friday is melting away.  I unpacked the kite.  There was some assembly and the instructions were not very explicit but it wasn't earth science to get it put together.  Indy and I took off for outside.  After a few failed attempts I realized that when the kite started spilling air a gentle tug on the string brought it back to being aerodynamic and kept feeding out the line.  Got it up pretty far.

Of course it was then that I decided what I needed was a picture.  So I reeled the kite back in and got the camera.  Turned out to be a bit trickier than I thought to feed out line on the kite and take a picture .  Fortunately my neighbor Blake was in the area, saw the kite, and buzzed over on his 4-wheeler to see what I was up to now.  His first question was "Did you get told off at work today?"  (ha)  Didn't take much coaxing to get him to fly the kite while I snapped a pic.  Kite flying isn't a usual February activity in the Northwoods.  Think it will be a heck of a lot more fun in the spring when I'm not wearing a hat, coat, and mittens.

That looks like a lot of fun! I remember as a kid hooking a kite on the line of a fishing rod. It went out a long way but took a while to reel it in.
