Blackberry blossoms

Wild blackberries are in bloom everywhere: hedges of blackberries along the paths, blackberries cascading down hillside, blackberries rimming the forest. If we have enough moisture during the summer it's going to be a bumper crop of fruit. There is nothing like taking a walk, picking a handful on the way, and meeting up w/ a bear when you have blackberry breath.

A picture from my neighbor Doug Dearhamer.  (Who shooed the bear back toward my property!)

Sound advice from my Grandpa Mayer when I was a kid - "Make some noise or talk loud when you're picking berries out there. You don't want to be the one to surprise a bear on the other side of the bushes."
