Goat eyes

Snow flurries yesterday so decided to try to take a picture of a snowflake. I already have the five pictures for this month's contest but getting a perfect snowflake might be a winner. Turns out to be more difficult than I thought. I threw an old black sheet over one of the chairs on the deck. However I have to blow up the pictures so much to get one tiny snowflake, I'm also getting the weft and warp of the fabric. Brought out my copy of Bulfinch's Mythology figuring it's black cover might work. However, the book was just too warm and all I collected were beads of moisture on it. Went for a walk and realized my black down vest might collect snowflakes well so I took it off and threw it over a small bush. While Indy stuck her nose down in tracks (I wonder if she can smell the animal that left them?) I waited for individual snowflakes to land. This turned out not to be one of my better ideas since I wasn't moving and didn't have my coat on, I got pretty cold. Just before going into the house again, I noticed Indy was covered w/ snow. Turns out Indy's hair is excellent for taking pictures of snowflakes. Still difficult to get an intact snowflake at the right angle for a picture but Indy is always happy to go out and collect more.

We have put a sheet of black construction paper in the freezer for a few minutes and then taken that paper outside to 'catch' snowflakes. You can see them really well and they don't melt.
