White Pine

The news this morning included a piece on swearing. A study, according to the newscaster found that people who use foul language have a larger vocabulary. Of course this resulted in a lot of back and forth banter among the rest of the news staff on the "merits" of cursing. My empirical observations over the years have showed just the opposite to be true so I got on-line to look into the specifics of this particular study. Found it was run by Kristin and Timothy Jay - psychologists in the U.S. Their "study" included 49 participants aged 18-22 and the test -in my opinion- did not meet scientific standards.  I swear (in a polite way) that what passes for "news" these days is more entertainment than enlightening.
